Say What They Want to Hear
Messaging is your first point of contact with potential clients. It's what stops them and grabs their attention or lets them walk on by. Making your messaging accurate and relevant to your audience can feel really hard to nail down. But when you do... it's like someone opens the client floodgates. Get this right and you're golden.

Dear Oh-So-Determined,
It’s time to get your messaging straight.
As Client-Getters, we get our house in order. So here’s what I want you to focus on right now:
Messaging accuracy is the thing that every coach struggles with whether new or seasoned. Your message can be a string of words that states who you help and what you help them do, but it can also be messaging for different products, programs, and services in your business. It’s literally the thing that either has people leaning in, wanting to hear more, or passing by because nothing stood out to them or was relevant.
And that’s okay. Unless this person is your ideal client.
Let’s look at messaging phases.
It’s important that you understand this, so your expectations don’t get in the way of you building a successful coaching business. Here’s an interesting fact I’ve learned over 17 years of copywriting and marketing consulting:
No one ever has accurate messaging right out of the gate. I mean NO one. I’ve worked with 6, 7, and even 9-figure clients and it took all of them time to figure it out.
There are phases to messaging. Experimental, Dialed-In, and Evolving.
If you’re in the first 1-3 years of your coaching business, chances are, you’re in the Experimental phase. You should be experimenting with your messaging a LOT, so you can fail faster and get to what actually works… faster.
In this phase, you may not be getting any clients yet. Or you’re getting a few here and there. It’s normal. (Albeit frustrating.)
If you’ve been at this a little while you might have your messaging dialed-in. It’s working to attract clients. YAY! However, you may find that it’s not attracting the right clients (This is a sub-phase called, “Dialed-In, but…”.
Or you’re shifting into the Evolving phase.
And that means that your business has grown and changed. You’ve changed and now your messaging needs to change too. But you’ve done all that work and it feels like starting over again. There’s fear around letting go of the “old” clients, so you muddle your messaging.
Rule #1: Say what they want to hear. It’ll stop’em in their tracks.
What's most important with your messaging, whether it's your core statement or messaging around your program or your free offer, is this: Is it clear?
I often see messaging that is complex, filled with words that just slow down the time it takes to understand what you do. And that is the kiss of death in messaging.
Think about it. In order to do anything in your business, you need clarity. Without clarity, you don't know what your next step is, what decision to make, or direction to head in.
The same holds true for your people and your messaging, if they don't experience clarity (from your messaging), they won't move toward working with you.
Make your messaging:
Sharp and simple
Enticing
Stand Out
And you’re on your way to finding clients, or rather clients finding you.

Simplify Your Business
AI is an incredible tool to use in your coaching business. It will help you get more done faster. For example, struggling to write headlines or “hooks”? Try this prompt:
Use ChatGPT or Claude and fill in the brackets with your specific information:
I am a [type of coach] who helps [ideal client] achieve [specific transformation]. Write 2 compelling hooks or headlines for each category below. I want to use this hook or headline on my website or social media to make my audience stop scrolling and pay attention. Keep the tone [friendly/professional/empowering/etc.].
Use these categories of hooks for inspiration:
A bold claim
A strong (and often controversial) opinion
Threat, warning & pain
Thought-provoking questions
A vulnerable disclosure
Confirm beliefs
A unique perspective
FOMO
A gripping intro to a story
[End Prompt]
Play around with it. Change the target audience, desired outcome, and struggle. Enjoy!
